Communities lack sovereignty in virtually every aspect of daily life. Food, energy, housing, transportation, and the environment are controlled by political and economic forces existing far beyond the reach of neighborhoods, towns, and most cities. We desperately need new forms of producing what we need that are democratically controlled at the local scale.
